Coincidentally, that was how I lost my 32GB microSDHC card back in 2012 while outdoors. Windows RT complained that the SD card could not be found (i had mapped the SD card to a subfolder inside Documents) so I tried to remove and re-insert the card.
Blasted thing shot out of the Surface RT and disappeared just like that. And back then, the approximate price for these high-capacity cards was $1 - $1.50/GB.
